If I had to describe my style in one word it would be “classic”. I’ve never been one to float from trend to trend. I always prefer to stick with what I know works for me. I invest in pieces that will carry me throughout the years. My reason for this is because I want to be able to walk into my closet and pull a couple of my favorite pieces and have a put together look. Don’t get me wrong, I love to sprinkle in a few trendy pieces but the majority of my purchases will fall under the timeless category.
There are a few pieces that I consider to be classic wardrobe staples. Every woman should have these things in her closet because at one point or another, she will need them! The first of those is a classic, black overcoat. I’ve talked about my love for coats on the blog multiple times, but it has taken me a long time to find the perfect black coat to add to my collection. The elements I look for in a coat are classic fit, good tailoring, medium to heavy weight and affordability. I have fallen in love with so many black coats during my search but sadly the price point has kept them from me.
Zara has been a go-to for me for many of my coats. They are very well made and come in at great price points. What I love about this coat is that it has a slightly more masculine cut. I love the tailored lapels and clean lines. This type of cut will always be in style which is why I love it.
Another item that every woman needs in her wardrobe is a good black and white stripe shirt. There are varying styles available from the classic button up to the tunic tee, but the idea is the same. A black and white top is something I reach for weekly. I wear it under my colored blazers to work, with boyfriend jeans and a cozy cardi, or on its own. I also love to pair a stripe shirt with pleated skirts. The horizontal stripe on the tee against the vertical pleats creates an amazing contrast. There are always so many options with a stripe shirt, making it my number one must have!
A great pair of white jeans is also on the list. White jeans can be tricky since they can be see through or unflattering. Which is why it is so important to find a great fitting pair. I have had great success with Old Navy and recently purchased these from J.Crew. White jeans are not just for spring and summer. I love wearing white year round, you just have to make sure you are styling it for winter. Pairing the white denim with darker tones and boots is an easy way to make it more winter appropriate.
Lastly, I always invest in neutral accessories. Luggage (cognac), black, white and grays are always my choice when it comes to bags. If you are purchasing a designer handbag, chances are you are spending a pretty penny and you want to make sure it will be a bag you can carry for years. I talked more about my tips for buying designer items in this post.
When you have a few classic pieces that all blend, it’s easy to get dressed everyday. Trendy items are fun to throw in every once in a while. It keeps your wardrobe feeling fresh and current, but by staying classic with your basics you will never be out of style. xo Bryn
