Last week I took a quick trip down to Florida to see Brian who was there for work. Since he was in classes we only had one full day to enjoy the Florida sunshine. We were staying in Fort Lauderdale which is an easy distance to Miami and Palm Beach. I have always wanted to visit Palm Beach but it wasn’t an area I would pick for a vacation so I jumped at the chance to be close enough for a day trip. It’s an easy drive from Fort Lauderdale to Palm Beach, if you don’t go in rush hour like we did. Even with a slightly longer drive, we both found it to be well worth it.
We arrived mid morning starving from our drive and ready for breakfast. As we were driving down the streets lined with boutiques and antique stores we spotted SurfSide Diner. We slid into the last booth available and discussed our plans for the day over our lattes. We wanted to keep the agenda pretty open and just see where the day took us. Palm Beach has some amazing shopping but for me I was more interested in the flowers that covered the shop exteriors. You know I love flowers, so when I visit a place that has the climate to grow them year round, I’m so happy.
After our breakfast we made our way down to Worth Ave for some major window shopping. Being from Dallas, we have access to most of the stores that line Worth Ave. But I do have to admit the ambiance is pretty spectacular. I loved discovering all of the little alleyways and courtyards. I would duck into an alley just to see what type of pretty flowers were hiding back behind the stores.
You might have seen on Instagram that I brought my camera and lens, but left the battery charging in the wall at home. (Insert face-palm emoji). So all of my photos from the weekend were snapped on my iPhone. Realizing it wasn’t the end of the world, I do have to say I was slightly bummed. I get such a creative high from traveling and shooting beautiful locations. The iPhone is portable but I found it somewhat limiting when it came to capturing the beauty of Palm Beach. But like I said… not the end of the world!
It was such a beautiful day. The perfect 72 degrees and sunny. When we had enough of all of the window shopping we decided to walk towards the beach. Florida has such beautiful beaches. White sand and pretty blue water, but this seemed even more blue than I was used to seeing. It was very windy so the water was choppy but so beautiful. We stood on the boardwalk (not wanting to get sand in our shoes) and listened to the waves crashing. I told Brian I didn’t even realize how much I needed the refresh. There is nothing better than the fresh ocean air!
Before we knew it, it was time to head back to Fort Lauderdale. xo Bryn
