Yesterday marked two years since I published my first blog post! As you might have seen from my Instagram caption yesterday, it feels weird to say it’s been two years. It’s gone by so fast but a part of me feels like I’ve always been doing this. I started this blog because I felt inspired to create something of my own. When I was in college I was exposed to a few bloggers and was so amazed by their creativity and their ability to create content that inspired people. Ever since then I have seen the world through my “blogger lens”. Even though I wasn’t blogging at the time, I saw things differently.
When I say “blogger lens” I mean the way that I see things creatively. When I’m out and about, I’m constantly looking around for new opportunities. Creating the concept for a post is my favorite part of blogging. I love being inspired by my surroundings. I get so much enjoyment from pulling an outfit together and finding the best place to showcase it. Or taking ordinary things and making them feel new and different. The creative process of blogging is what I love.
If I really think about “blogging” and what it is, I understand that it seems silly. And honestly, there can be so much negativity surrounding bloggers and the industry that I just don’t get. When blogging started, it was creative people who wanted to share their inspirations, thoughts and experiences online in a unique and beautiful way. This has shifted a little now that it has become an “industry” where people make money through their blogs. But overall I still feel like it’s a very positive space.
Over the past two years of blogging I’ve had to deal with my share of negativity. There will always be people who don’t want to see other people succeed, or who feel better when they’re bringing someone else down. Luckily my experiences with these types of people have been limited. The negativity for me has really come from the internal pressure of what my blogging journey “should” look like.
As I mentioned earlier, since blogging has become more of an industry, there appears to be a formula for success. With the introduction of affiliate programs to the blogosphere, I think people started to feel the need to adapt their content to make more money. Now don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with this! I am a part of both RewardStyle and ShopStyle, and I do earn commission by using these affiliate links. But the commission on a dress is not my motivation behind each blog post.
So in an effort to not be too long-winded, my point is when it comes to your passion there is no right or wrong. No one has the formula to success. Everything you do should come from the heart. I shared this quote on my stories yesterday: “The things you are passionate about are not random, they are your calling.” Pay attention to the things you are passionate about. Spend time on those things every single day. Don’t worry about money, likes, page views, etc. Just do what brings you joy, and the rest will follow. xo Bryn

Congrats on two years. I totally agree with you, that blogging really has become an industry. There is ways to make money with it, but that’s not the main focus. Creativity, and putting thoughts out there are great.

Love this! I love the joy that blogging brings to me as well. The creativity that goes behind how I want to communicate inspirational stories to people is enough to keep me going. I would love to make more money on it one day but I’m happy continuing to work on it without making a dime. Its my #1 hobby!

Happy Blogiversary Bryn! It is crazy to see how much blogging has evolved. I’m with you and I still like to use my blog for a space for my creativity. As much as it is great to make money off of it, I just enjoy sharing what I love.

Love this Bryn! I talked a bit about creating content based on a space over on our blog today too. I’m always so inspired by setting and I think we share our love in that together. Happy anniversary on your blog and keep up the amazing work! I always love your content.
