Our time in Lake Garda was so special. We made it a goal to see as many of the charming towns surrounding the lake as possible. I’ve shared where we stayed and spent most of our time here and here. Our final day in Lake Garda was a cloudy and rainy day. We were staying in Riva del Garda and decided to hop over to the neighboring town of Torbole.
Torbole has a beautiful rocky beach that is nestled at the foot of the mountains making it quite the impressive spot. It was too cold to even think about sticking our toes in the water, so we opted for a cappuccino and a walk around the town instead.
Like every Lake Garda town, Torbole has beauty hiding around every corner. We always tried to find one of the highest points in each town to be able to take in all of the views. This view did not disappoint. Riva del Garda and Torbole have such beautiful vistas. The contrast between the steep, green mountains with the still, blue water is amazing.
After a couple of hours the rain started to come down a little harder. We decided to head back to our hotel, change and re-group. This was the first day that the weather was interfering with our plans, so we made the best of it. There is a town nearby Riva that we had heard has a beautiful grotto and garden. Since we were already wet, why not go all out, right?
We drove away from the lake and more into the mountains to Tenno to visit Varone Waterfall. We didn’t know what to expect and were completely surprised at the beautiful setting. The waterfall is surrounded by gardens in full bloom. The rain kept away most of the crowds so we had the place almost completely to ourselves.
Feeling adventurous, we left Tenno and went even more inland to Alto. The rain was starting to let up and we wanted to see another Lake Garda town. Out of all of the towns we visited, Alto felt the most Germanic. There were so many Germans and Austrians visiting all areas of Lake Garda but Alto had the highest concentration, by far. It is a very active town with plenty of outdoor activities, which is why it’s a favorite tourist spot.
After a full day of sight-seeing we headed back to Riva del Garda for our final evening by the water feeling like we had seen and done it all! xo Bryn
