When I think of “The South” I envision large plantation homes with wrap around front porches, oak trees covered in Spanish Moss and a tall glass of ice tea. I knew I wanted to visit one (if not more) of the plantation homes when were planning our trip to Charleston. I did some research of the surrounding areas and kept seeing Magnolia Plantation. The name alone would have been enough to convince me, but the gardens sounded like a must see.
Brian and I like to get an early start when we travel. It helps us pack as much into our day as we can and it also allows us to beat the crowds. We woke up early our second day in Charleston and made our way out to visit Magnolia Plantation.
Turning onto the long drive is such a magical experience. There are rays of sunlight that shine through the oak canopies and reflect off the Spanish Moss creating a shimmering haze. The drive winds through marshlands and heavily wooded patches before you reach the clearing where the plantation sits.
We set out for the gardens deciding to skip the guided tour of the plantation home. Brian and I are always more interested in being outside. The grounds are extensive and it’s easy to get lost in the trees. We found so many beautiful sections of the gardens connected by little white bridges. It seemed to go on for miles!
As we got deeper into the trees the air got thicker and it really started to heat up. I was grateful to be wearing this off the shoulder dress from The Reformation. I have a couple of dresses from them and I love how unique and beautiful each design is. This dress is sold out but I love this similar style.
With the humidity and proximity to the marshes, the mosquitoes were out in full force. We had to stop shooting and actually run away at one point! If you do plan to visit Magnolia Plantation be sure to pack the bug spray.
Mosquitoes aside, it is truly a magnificent place to visit. The wildness of the gardens is like nothing I have ever seen. It is a wonderful change of pace from wandering the streets of Charleston.
Thank you so much for reading! I hope you have a wonderful week! Xo Bryn

Wow, this greenery is absolutely gorgeous! I’ve been wanting to visit Charleston for a while now because I’ve heard that it is indeed charming and there’s so much to do and see, including the plantation homes. Thanks so much for the heads up on the bug spray because I’m extremely allergic to mosquito bites, the whole area gets incredibly swollen and red! As for your outfit, you look so beautiful in that dress, I love the off the shoulder design and print! Thanks so much for sharing, beauty, and I hope you have a great week ahead!
