Happy National Stripes Day! When I heard that J.Crew was creating a holiday for my beloved stripes I knew I couldnāt let this go un-celebrated. J.Crew has always been my go-to when it comes to fun ways to style patterns. In my opinion no brand does it better. They make bold pattern pairings look effortless and cool, which always inspires me.
There is something about stripes that we all seem to just love. StripesĀ have so many options. They can be elongating and grounding, classic but trendy, and universally flattering. I could easily wear stripes every day for the rest of my life and be perfectly happy! So naturally, National Stripes Day was something I wasn’t going to miss.
This week on the blogĀ I have beenĀ featuring different ways to incorporate red into your spring wardrobe. Ā You can see my previous posts here and here. So I knew I wanted to style this linen skirt in red stripe. Linen is one of my favorite fabrics for spring and summer. It breathes so well and keeps me cool in the Texas heat. I also love the way the red dye is more muted on the linen fabric. It’s a softer way to bring red in for spring.
I would usually let the skirt be the stand alone piece and go with a solid color in my top. But I felt that National Stripes Day was more of a challenge than anything, so I went the extra step. I paired this classic fit stripe tee with the skirt for extra impact. The reason this works together is because there is a contrast with the vertical stripe of the skirt and the horizontal in the tee. If the stripes were all going in the same direction, there would be too much going on. It also helps that the stripes are slightly different scale. It helps your eye separate the pieces.
I kept my accessories very neutral since the stripes are bold enough. I really wanted to look to feel classic and not overdone. My nude sandals and Cult Gaia bag were easy choices to complete the outfit. My Le Specs sunglasses are so fun and have a retro feel that I love with the stripes.
This skirt is definitely the most subdued way I have styled the color red this week, but as you can tell I love to pair my red with white and blue. It’s a classic combination that never fails. I hope you have enjoyed this weeks feature on how to style red for spring. I hope it inspired you to go a little bolder this season. Happy National Stripes Day, don’t forget to wear your stripes today! xo Bryn
