It’s that time of year where the fall fashion has already started to hit the stores, but it’s still incredibly hot outside! This transition period always puts me in a strange mood. I am longing for crisp fall days but not quite ready to kiss summer goodbye. It could cool down, just a little, though. Since the Nordstrom Anniversary sale is coming to a close this week, August 6th to be exact, I wanted to take advantage of the fall styles all on sale. Every fall I purchase a few pieces that I call my “Fall Wardrobe Staples.” These are pieces that I have found myself constantly reaching for and styling multiple ways.
The Nordstrom Anniversary sale is one of my favorite times to purchase new fall wardrobe staples, but I usually don’t go too overboard when shopping the sale. I believe that the beauty of buying “wardrobe staples” is you don’t have to buy a new one every season. I just replace mine when it’s time. So for this post I am sharing how you can style some of my favorite pieces from this year or pervious years, with items that are currently on sale.
The Long Cardi
The number one “must purchase” item this fall is the long cardi. I have so many in a variety of neutral colors and they are by far my most worn items during the fall. They are also great for the transition from summer, because they look so cute over summer dresses and skirts. I recommend going with one light weight version in a lighter shade like this one. It’s great for an extra layer with a long sleeve tee and under your knee-length coat. I also suggest getting a slightly thicker, more coat like version for the cooler days.
The Striped Tee
A striped tee is not exclusive to fall wardrobe staples, it’s definitely something I have in my closet year round. Stripes add so much more dimension to a look, especially when layering. So I always make sure to have a fresh crop of stripes for fall. I love this peplum version because it adds a little more interest to the top. I also love the idea of the stripe button up like this one. It looks great paired with a longer cardi and jeans.
The Black Jean
It would be impossible for me to get through winter and fall without my black jeans. Maybe not impossible, but I definitely wouldn’t look as chic! Black jeans add such a pop against your boots and the deep fall hues like burgundy and camel. I don’t think the colors look as rich against denim. I tend to go through my black jeans every season since they can fade after many washes, and I like to keep them looking crisp! There really is nothing more slimming than a skinny black pant. I love the frayed hem on these.
The Neutral Boot
Boots and fall go hand in hand, so it’s no surprise that these are at the top of my list for fall wardrobe staples. I love all boots but the pair that I get the most wear out of is my neutral suede boot. I love the way the tan color looks with all of favorite fall shades. Black boots are a great investment and I love them in winter but you can’t go wrong with a gorgeous neutral suede. I have had my eyes on these since I first saw them! The color is perfect and I love the wood heel.
The Large Tote
Last but not least, a large tote bag is a necessity. I typically carry a sweater, gloves when it gets colder, usual things like wallet and sunglasses, so I need a large bag in the fall. I am currently in the market for a new cognac leather tote. This one with the black stripe is a top contender. Black is always a great staple, but I also love the idea of a burgundy as a fall neutral.
Since we are coming towards the end of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, there are quite a few pieces that are out of stock. Nordstrom has been really good about restocks during the sale so keep checking back. Another great thing about Nordstrom is their return policy. You can always exchange for a different color or size once an item is restocked if you aren’t happy with your original selection. What are some of your fall wardrobe staples? xo Bryn

I love this whole look and completely relate to you about feeling weird about the seasons right now. Maybe I’d feel better if it dropped below 100 degrees?? Regardless, you look amazing! I love all of your picks.
