“I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.” ― L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables. A quote from one of my favorite books and I statement I completely agree with. October is a magical month. It’s hard for me to put into words what I love about it. The obvious things like pumpkin flavored everything and changing leaves are wonderful, but it’s something else. I relate it more to how I feel in the spring. There is a newness to fall that I love.
Each fall when the leaves start to change and the weather gets just a little cooler, I feel refreshed. It’s the reprieve from the scorching summer months that we have been longing for. I always look forward to this time of year. Since Brian and I started dating a decade ago, October has been a month of memories for us.
Every year we find a new way to celebrate a month that we both love so much. In the past we have gone to the Dallas Arboretum for the fall displays and have tried several pumpkin patches in the area. I still remember carving our pumpkins on the property at Waketon Road. They didn’t always look great but we had fun trying!
Since we had a taste of fall while we were in London we wanted to keep the feeling going when we got home. Even though the weather in Texas has been far from crisp we are getting into the spirit in different ways. We tried Hall’s Pumpkin Patch this year because I heard it was too cute to miss.
To make it feel more like a fall evening I wore this look from Old Navy with my two favorite colors for fall: burgundy and mustard. This color combination is a classic for the autumn season. They are rich and echo the natural colors perfectly. I also loved the silky texture of this top paired with the skirt.
I wear a lot of skirts in the fall, especially because our weather is still warm enough. This skirt will be great with chunky sweaters and tall boots. But for now it is perfect with flats or booties.
After testing our sense of direction in the corn maze, we spent the rest of the evening wandering around. We couldn’t resist bringing a few pumpkins home to decorate our front porch. Evenings like this are why I love October.
