As we near the end of 2017 I’m going back over everything that has happened this year and looking forward to what’s to come. I’m not sure what it is about the approaching new year that makes everyone so reflective. Maybe it’s the chance to start fresh. I’m not one for New Year’s resolutions, but I do love the idea of setting new goals.

One of my goals in 2017 was that I wanted to travel more and I feel like I accomplished that this year. I started 2017 in San Fransisco, spent September in the UK and celebrated the holidays in Orlando with several other stops in between. Travel is so important to me for several reasons. I feel the most alive when I travel because when I am home I have a pretty typical routine. I go through a lot of my day on auto-pilot but when I’m traveling I’m so much more aware of all of my surroundings. So I feel like I experience so much more as a result.

I also think it’s important to see different perspectives and ways of life. To see how other people live gives you a greater appreciation for what you have. It provides some perspective, which we all need from time to time.

Something I have learned over the years of traveling is that you have to be open-minded. Whether it is your first time visiting somewhere or not, go into a trip with an open mind. No matter how much you have planned or researched, things will change. There will be things that don’t live up to your expectations. A great example was my trip to New Orleans. Some people love it and some hate it, but a trip is what you make of it. I loved it! It was a wonderful trip but it’s all about being open to the unique experiences that each new city has to offer.

My favorite trips of the year were definitely our week in the UK including London and the English Countryside, A Day in Paris and An Evening in New Orleans. I have a secret Pinterest board with several places I am hoping to visit in 2018. The top of the list includes Bavaria, Seattle, a fall foliage tour of New England and a trip back to Charleston. What were some of your favorite places you visited in 2017? xo Bryn
