Last week I shared a post on how I shop for my home, starting with the large pieces of furniture first. Once I have purchased most of the large-scale pieces that I need, I start adding the personal touches that make our house feel more like a home. Both Brian and I prefer a traditional decor style but we still like to have fun with design. To represent both of our taste and personalities, our home has a balance of feminine floral touches and nautical accents. To compliment the neutrals we have added pops of blush and blues (our favorite colors). Some of our rooms lean more feminine like our master bedroom, while the study is much more masculine.

I am always looking for decorative accents to bring home. Especially when we travel. It’s always fun when a piece has a memory attached to it. But when I’m not traveling, and I’m looking for a special piece there are a few retailers that have become my go-to for unique home decor.

One of my favorite online retailers for all things home decor is One Kings Lane. I am on their site weekly looking through new arrivals or just getting inspired by their collections. What I love about One Kings Lane is their mix of both new and vintage decor. Many of my favorite decor pieces have come from One Kings Lane. I also make weekly trips to HomeGoods. I’ve found that going first thing in the morning is best. You have the best selection and no lines!

There are the also the usual favorites like Pottery Barn, Pier 1, Anthropologie, and Williams-Sonoma. But my favorite places to shop for unique home decor pieces are small decor shops. If you live in the DFW area, Downtown McKinney has some of my favorite shops for home decor. If not, most town squares or downtown areas have great shops.
