2019 Life Update…
You have probably noticed that things have gotten a little quiet for me around here lately. Starting 2019 I knew that my focus on this blog would be much less than the previous years. But even I didn’t think it would be quite so drastic. There isn’t one particular reason that I haven’t been as active on the blog and social media, but more a culmination of many little things. There are the obvious reasons like being busy with work and having less time to dedicate to this but it is so much more than that.
Over the past couple of months I have really been thinking about what I want/wanted out of this journey. Things have changed a lot since I started Waketon Road. The industry and social media have changed, but those aren’t really the changes that have had the biggest impact for me personally.
I started this little side hustle a few years ago during a down period at work. For those of you who don’t know, I work in new home sales for a top builder in Texas. We had a record January in my neighborhood in both sales and traffic. There were days where we couldn’t eat or go to the bathroom from open to close! I would come home completely mentally and physically exhausted. That left me with very little energy for anything else!
Things at work have slowed down a little bit but as we head into spring (selling season) I know things will pick back up again. I really enjoy my job! It can be very challenging but extremely rewarding, and I feel very fortunate to work for a company that I love. But I also love the creativity I get to express when blogging more consistently.
On top of it being a busy couple of months I haven’t felt very creative lately. This blog has always been driven by creativity, but I think I wore myself out feeling like I had to produce content constantly. We all need to take time to recharge. For those of us who work a more typical job, we take a couple weeks of vacation throughout the year to break from the routine. I found I just needed an extended vacation from blogging.
Something that has been much more of a focus lately has been our home. We’ve made some changes over the past few months, and have more planned. Interior design has always been a passion of mine, and is closely tied to my day job. So I have really enjoyed feeling inspired by my home again. I started the year going “Marie Kondo” on our closets and kitchen, and from there have been slowly adding new pieces around the house. I’ll be sharing more of this soon.
So what does the future look like for Waketon Road? Hopefully more home decor content, travel and things that I love and want to share with you. This year is about doing things that bring joy and letting go of the (self-inflicted) pressure of feeling like we should being doing it all! We all go through periods where our priorities shift from one thing to the next. It’s natural and important for our personal growth. xo Bryn
A special thank you Vionic for these amazing sling-back shoes!
Hi Bryn!
Thanks for the update. I found you not that long ago, but simply love the content you put out there.
I think it’s really admirable that you understand the importance of taking a step back when necessary – and putting your mental and physical health first.
With that said, your blog is a place I enjoy coming to and am excited for the home decor/travel content coming soon!

Very much understand and appreciate that you want this blog to be run by creativity and not just content for content’s sake. I love reading your posts, even when they are less frequent, and I’m excited to see all the creativity you bring to it this year!
